A while back I started a blog page where I had intended to share collections of my favorite Classic Doom maps that I had compiled into convenient WAD sets. Well, as some of you may have noticed, file servers apparently cannot be trusted to keep my uploaded files around for very long (and I can't submit them to the DoomWorld/id Games Archives because from there I would expect nothing but accusations that I'm stealing the works of others, which is hardly my intention). So I'm really left with no other choice but to provide links to all the individual files scattered throughout the Archives and share them in that manner. I've just finished updating all the links that were on the page thus far, and will continue to add new content as I find it. I apologize because I know this way is more inconvenient, but with my hands virtually tied it appears to be the best that I will be able to do.
Might I recommend Dropbox to host your files (or other peoples files as long as they don't forbid that)?
ReplyDeleteI use it for a few years now and nothing got ever deleted unless I wanted to. It's not one of those ad-spamming filehosters, more like a personal archive or like a mirror of a directory on your harddrive, just with sharing options.
Slightly on topic: I downloaded lots of stuff from that list you compiled, including the editors, which I recently started up for the first time, and it immediately got me hooked. I sent you an e-mail on that matter a while back, looks like you didnt read it yet so I'm now gonna take this opportunity and ask for help here. I already got all the problems I mentioned in that mail solved, but I still need someone to play-test my 2 and a half maps ^^
My list of sent e-mails shows that I sent my most recent reply to yours on April 29. Do you have me flagged as spam?
DeleteI'll take a look at Dropbox; my main issue is that I can't afford to pay for such services.
I checked the filter, nothing in there that doesn't belong. The only e-mails I received around the 29th are Youtube notifications. E-mail is so old fashioned anyway :p I barely used it. Isnt there a message system on blogspot? Or maybe you're still active on VGU?
DeleteAbout Dropbox, at least 2 GB storage is completely free. You can aquire up to 8 GB for free if you "convince a friend to join" and things like that. I already got 3 GB and never paid anything.
I've forwarded the e-mail to you (since I couldn't find gmail's re-send button) and hopefully you will actually receive it this time. At this rate it would have been quicker if I'd put a stamp on it...
ReplyDeleteHmm. Dropbox sounds quite promising. 2GB free? That's like 100,000 classic Doom maps...
I got it. And your old e-mail too. Looks like somethings wrong with Mozilla Thunderbird. I went to my e-mail service's website, logged in and voilá, everythings there.
DeleteMy bad, I should have checked earlier. Thanks a lot for your detailed answers, much appreciated!
My pleasure. I look forward to seeing more.
